ABOUT

Why stage a new opera today? Through subtle and playful trompe-l’œil, anamorphosis and metamorphosis, this new production invites us to consider the contemporary stakes involved in artistic creation and opera performance. The Prologue brings into dialogue two groups of people gathered around a table: on stage, artists having a read-through, discovering the new opera they are to perform in front of its sponsor; on video, the elegant guests of this same patron, already seated for the sumptuous dinner that precedes the performance. The Opera then takes us to the island of Naxos, in an anamorphosis reminding us that Naxos is nothing but a fictitious space. Constantly deconstructed, the scenography evolves along the evening, in much the same way that the characters of the opera unravel, mutate and gradually reconstruct.
An Ariadne in the realm of illusion, between “Portrait of the Artist as a Worker“ and gourmet entertainment for rich patrons, right at the heart of the manufacture of live entertainment.
